9 Day Uganda Safari

African Ibis Adventures

This 8-day Uganda safari combines thrilling savannah game drives, exciting boat cruises, and unforgettable primate encounters for a complete African adventure. Beginning in Entebbe, the journey takes you north to Murchison Falls National Park, where you track rhinos at Ziwa Sanctuary, explore vast savannahs teeming with lions, elephants, giraffes, and enjoy a cruise along the Nile to the base of the powerful falls. From here, you travel south to Kibale Forest, the “primate capital,” for a magical chimpanzee trekking experience and a community visit at Bigodi Wetland. The adventure continues in Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its rich wildlife and the Kazinga Channel, home to hippos, crocodiles, and elephants. Early morning game drives in the Kasenyi Plains offer excellent chances of spotting lions and other predators. Finally, the highlight of the safari awaits in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where you trek into the dense rainforest to encounter endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The journey ends with a return to Entebbe or Kigali, enriched with unforgettable memories of Uganda’s wildlife, landscapes, and cultures.

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe and transfer to the hotel

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your driver-guide. Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to relax at your hotel or explore Entebbe town. Optional activities include visiting the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, or a sunset boat cruise on Lake Victoria. Overnight in Entebbe.

Day 2: Entebbe – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Murchison Falls (6–7 hrs drive)

After breakfast, you will drive northwards with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda to see wild rhinos. Here you will enjoy guided rhino tracking on foot before continuing to Murchison Falls National Park. Have stop for lunch. In the park, visit the top of Murchison Falls, where the Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge, creating a powerful cascade. Continue to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Game Drive & Nile Boat Safari

Rise early for a game drive across the northern savannah of Murchison Falls, where you may encounter lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hartebeest, oribi, and possibly leopards. Return for breakfast and relaxation. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Nile to the base of the falls, spotting hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and abundant birdlife such as kingfishers and African fish eagles. For the adventurous, you can hike up to the top of the falls for panoramic views.

Day 4: Murchison falls to Kibale Forest (7–8 hrs drive)

Enjoy breakfast before embarking on a long but scenic drive southwards. Travel through traditional homesteads, tea plantations, and the Albertine Rift Valley, with occasional wildlife sightings along the way. Arrive in Kibale Forest National Park, renowned as the “primate capital of the world.” Settle into your lodge nestled in the forest or overlooking crater lakes.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Experience

After an early breakfast, head to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a briefing and begin your chimpanzee trek. Accompanied by experienced rangers, track these playful primates and spend an hour observing them feed, groom, and vocalize. Other primates like red colobus, black-and-white colobus, and vervet monkeys may also be seen. After lunch, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community conservation project famous for birding, including the great blue turaco, and cultural encounters with local people.

Day 6: Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park (3 hrs drive)

After breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most diverse savannah park. En route, enjoy crater lake views and the backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. Arrive in time for lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway linking Lake George and Lake Edward. Here, see huge concentrations of hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, and abundant waterbirds. Later, enjoy an evening game drive before returning to your lodge.

Day 7: Game Drive and Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park (5–6 hrs drive)

Wake up early for a game drive in the Kasenyi Plains, where lions are often spotted hunting Uganda kobs. Expect elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, and hyenas as well. Return for breakfast before driving south through the scenic Kigezi Highlands, known as the “Switzerland of Africa,” with rolling hills and terraced farms. Arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s mountain gorillas. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing and allocation of gorilla families. Accompanied by rangers, trek through dense rainforest, sometimes steep terrain, until you encounter the gorillas. Once found, spend an unforgettable hour observing them feed, groom, and interact. Return to the lodge for lunch,in the afternoon go for batwa cultural experience.

Day 9 Transfer back to Kampala or Entebbe.

After breakfast, you will then begin your journey back to Entebbe (8–9 hrs) depending on your flight arrangements. Stop at the Equator for photography and souvenirs if returning via Kampala
